• “Nobody looks anyway.”

  Without a website or Google profile you can't tell. People who search for you and find nothing just call someone else, and you never hear about it. For a big job, people almost always look a business up before asking for a quote. Not sure? First set up your free Google Business Profile. After a month Google itself shows how many people viewed it and how many called. Then you know for sure.

• “My clients come through word of mouth.”

  Great, that means you do good work. But people who hear your name usually look you up before they call. If they find nothing, or an old site that doesn't work on their phone, it feels uncertain. A good site makes the recommendation stronger: they see your work, what you do and how to reach you.

• “I have Instagram or Facebook, that's enough.”

  Keep them. But people who search Google for your trade and town mostly see websites and Google profiles, not posts. On Instagram the algorithm decides who sees you, and your account isn't really yours. A website is your fixed address, and you simply link to it from your Instagram.

• “I already have enough work.”

  Then you have the luxury of choosing. Put on your site what you do and don't do, the area you work in and your starting prices. You get better requests and fewer calls with the same questions. And if you ever look for staff, applicants check online first what your business looks like.

• “A website is too expensive.”

  A One-pager costs €200 one-off with us, plus €15 a month for hosting and domain, or you arrange that yourself. You see a free design first and only pay if you want to go ahead. One new client often pays for it.

• “I already have a website.”

  Grab your phone and check three things. Can you read it without zooming in? Can you call or message with one tap? Does it show up on Google when you search for your trade and town? If one answer is no, you're probably missing clients. A free scan shows where the problem is.
